What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy supports people to engage in the activities that matter most to them. Think of us as a detective —we help crack the code behind the barriers for daily life.
By working in partnership, we uncover what might be getting in the way of participation and create practical, personalised strategies to make daily activities feel easier, more achievable, and more enjoyable, based upon your goals.
We Support:
Executive Functioning – finding brain-hacks and tools to make things like planning, organising, and staying focused easier.
Sensory Processing – helping you (and the people around you) understand your sensory needs, and finding tools or tweaks to your environment that make life more comfortable.
Emotional Regulation – learning how to notice what your body’s telling you and building safe strategies for handling feelings when they show up.
Fine Motor Skills – strengthening the small but important skills for things like writing, using tech, or hobbies you enjoy.
Functional Capacity & Energy Management – building confidence in everyday routines and tasks, and finding ways to sustain your energy and capacity so you’ve got it for the things you want to do, not just the stuff you have to do.
Life Skills & Independence – strengthening practical skills to support independence at home, school, work, and in the community, helping you feel capable and satisfied in everyday life.
Activities of Daily Living – supporting individuals with essential routines such as sleep, dressing, bathing, eating, and self-care, to enhance comfort and wellbeing.
Self-Empowerment & Sexual Wellbeing – supporting people to develop confidence and understanding around sexuality, consent and personal boundaries, puberty and hormones, and forming safe, healthy, and meaningful relationships.
Assessments
Functional Capacity Assessment
What is a FCA?
A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a comprehensive assessment completed by an Occupational Therapist to help understand a person’s current abilities and support needs in everyday life. It includes a combination of both standardised and non-standardised assessments, clinical observations, and personalised recommendations to help guide access to appropriate services and funding. The assessment provides clear and professional evidence to help ensure that the right level of funding and support is in place to meet disability-specific needs.
Sensory Processing Assessment
What is a Sensory Profile?
A Sensory Processing Assessment is a comprehensive assessment completed by an Occupational Therapist to understand how a person processes and responds to sensory information in everyday life. It draws on standardised questionnaires, clinical observations, and discussions with the individual and their support network to identify sensory preferences and regulation needs. The assessment provides valuable insights into how sensory processing impacts daily activities, participation, learning, and wellbeing. The results help guide tailored strategies, environmental adjustments, and supports that promote comfort, engagement, and independence across home, school, work, and community settings.
Handwriting Assessment
What is a Handwriting Assessment?
A Handwriting Assessment is a comprehensive assessment completed by an Occupational Therapist to understand a person’s handwriting skills and how these may impact participation in everyday life such as academic performance (e.g., the ability to demonstrate learning and knowledge through written expression and keeping up with classroom demands) and functional written skills required for daily activities. It consists of standardised assessments, clinical observations, and discussions with the individual and their support network to explore areas such as fine motor skills, pencil grasp, posture, visual-motor integration, visual perception, and handwriting legibility, all of which can influence written expression. The results provide valuable insights into strengths and barriers, and help guide recommendations for strategies, supports, and accommodations that promote confidence, efficiency, and success in written communication.
Why a FCA might be needed:
Wanting to apply for NDIS funding.
To review or update an existing NDIS plan, especially if current supports are no longer meeting your or your young person’s needs.
If there have been significant changes in you or your young person’s abilities or daily functioning.
Why a Sensory Processing Assessment might be needed:
Identify a person’s sensory strengths and preferences that support comfort, focus, and engagement.
Help the individual and their support network understand sensory patterns, so strategies and environmental adjustments can be tailored to promote wellbeing and participation.
Support regulation, attention, learning, or daily routines in ways that align with the person’s sensory needs.
Why a Handwriting Assessment might be needed:
If you or your young person has an inefficient or non-functional pencil grasp, impacting comfort, control, and writing fluency.
If you or your young person has slow handwriting speed, making it challenging to keep up with classroom tasks and assessments.
If you or your young person experience pain or fatigue during handwriting, reducing endurance for written work.
Highlight supports and accommodations that enable a student to more effectively show their knowledge and learning.
Support applications for extra assistance at school by providing clear evidence of needs and recommendations.
